We’ve gone through a bit of transformation over the past few months. Yours truly has taken on the title of Chairman & CEO of Last Gang Entertainment which is the umbrella banner overseeing our label, management and publishing operations. It wasn’t the corporate title I envisioned when we started this little label years ago, but where are you going to go when a guy (Lenny Levine) deserves to be President of the label and another (Trevor Guy) deserves a VP title? Shouldn’t you have chief executives once you’ve sold 1,000,000 albums? What the f**&k? How did that happen? This little stamp collection established for some ragtag Canadian transplants subsisting in Williamsburg has grown into a viable and sought after refuge for recording artists trying to get their music to the world. Sure, you can put your music out “yourself” but how much fun is that? Who provides the cash, the personnel, the experience, the knowledge, and the love? Yep, “the love”. Not everyone has the access to capital and staffing (i.e. Radiohead, NIN, Dave Matthews) to build out their own little Last Gang. In fact, it begs the question, “where would the aforementioned mega success stories be TODAY if they did it ‘themselves’ back in the 80’s/90’s...when their evil record company put them into the torture chamber and forced them to sign unscrupulous agreements that dared allow them to profit on their intellectual property?” Jesus, spare me. Don’t get me wrong, the larceny and evildoers have proliferated over the history of the music business; but we can say with a straight face we bring value and integrity to the table that allows little angels to spread their wings and take on the world. Grow wings...fly...touch heaven...as we stay on the ground and till the soil for future saints.
